Cupping therapy is an ancient form of alternative medicine in which a therapist puts special cups on your skin for a few minutes to create suction. People get it for many purposes, including to help with pain, inflammation, blood flow, relaxation and well-being, and as a type of deep-tissue massage. We offer cupping as part of your normal visit or as a separate service or visit.
All doctors at our location provide cupping to patients. Traditionally, cupping was used with glass cups and fire to create the suction for therapy. At Elite Performance Chiropractic, we have new age cups with a suction device for easy application and removal from the skin.
Cupping is effective for pain, arthritis, fibromyalgia, migraines and headaches, and much more.
How many cups are placed on my body during the session?
The number of cups depends on the condition and the area. We have different sized cups for different areas of the body. We can do as little as one cup and use it actively or use up to 6 cups for a larger area.
Will I bruise after cupping?
Most likely, yes. If the cups are not moved during therapy, there will be a small circular bruise left where the cups were. This discoloration is normal for this type of therapy and is caused from broken blood vessels, like a bruise.
